In the Hebrew calendar, one birth in four falls under a different zodiac sign than in the usual horoscope. And an evening birth can change sign again, because the Hebrew day begins the evening before, at sunset. Astromazal, a free site in English and French, does the calculation in a few seconds.
The Hebrew calendar follows the Moon: its twelve months, Nissan, Iyar, Sivan…, slide every year against the civil months. The tradition attaches a sign, a mazal, to each of them: Nissan to Aries, Tishrei to Libra, Adar to Pisces. Because the Hebrew months don't match the horoscope dates, many people find they don't have the sign they thought.
Example: someone born on 26 March 1990 thinks they are an Aries. In the Hebrew calendar, that day is 29 Adar 5750: their mazal is Pisces. Born in the evening, after sunset, it is already 1 Nissan: Aries.
• 25.8% of daytime births fall under a different sign in the Hebrew calendar (computed on all 14,610 days from 1970 to 2009).
• Depending on the sign, 25 to 30% of people are affected; Pisces less so (11%).
• A birth after sunset changes Hebrew day, and sometimes sign.
• More than 5,000 first names written in Hebrew letters on the site, with their value and meaning.
Method: for each day from 1970 to 2009, the Hebrew month is taken from the standard Hebrew calendar, the same one used in diaries and phones; it is compared with the usual sign, using the dates most common in the press (Aries from 21 March to 19 April, etc.). Full details of the calculation on request.
The site writes more than 5,000 first names in Hebrew letters, with the value of each letter (gematria). Some hold surprises: Karen is written קרן, exactly the letters of the word in the Torah that says Moses' face "shone" (Exodus 34:29).
• Independent site, launched in 2026, in English and French.
• Free calculation, no sign-up, done in the browser: Hebrew date of birth, sunset included, and mazal.
• Longer written reports are offered as an option.
• Its mascot, Maguen, a star who explains the signs in videos.
